Cleaning Up and New Zoey Model

I have been cleaning up my files and folders for converting the survivor models, after working out several issues with my process. This should make it easier and faster (I keep saying that) to convert models.

As part of working out converting issues, I converted a model to replace Zoey. Not only did it help me work out more converting issues, I now have a beautiful new model almost ready for release. I'll leave it as a surprise what character I converted. My only hint: the character is a woman from Dissidia Final Fantasy.

Found Helpful Rigging Trick

When rigging a converted model to a survivor character model, I had been moving the converted model's mesh to match as closely as possible to the survivor mesh. That way, I could then essentially copy-paste the survivor's weightmap and wouldn't have to tweak it as much. The problem is that I often found it hard to move the converted model's mesh and have it still look right.

The trick I found: move the survivor's original rigged model to match as closely to the converted model and copy-paste *that* weightmap. This of course is much easier for me to do than moving mesh parts without a rigging. This trick will make it much quicker for me to convert models.

Viewmodels for Trishka; MDL to SMD Converter

I have made the viewmodel for Trishka, but nothing else with the model requests. Sorry about that.

I have been working on a "MDL to SMD converter" (for lack of a better name) that I hope will become the replacement for MDLDecompiler (which isn't being updated). My main motivation for this comes from wanting to understand more about the L4D2 survivor models (including their animations).

I tested replacing Ellis model using Rochelle's animations. Most of the animations played correctly, but a few just showed the default "T-pose". I am not sure what is different, but I'd like to know, so I could make female animations work on the male characters (and vice-versa).

Working on Model Requests

Over the weekend, I converted and rigged the first two models requested, Trishka Novak and Claire Redfield. I only rigged the external models. I will try to finish their internal models and their related images for uploading by this next weekend.

Figuring Out Custom L4D2 Survivor Viewmodels

I just recently tried replacing the viewmodel (i.e. the arms of your own character in-game) of Rochelle to the one that the Jill Valentine model should use. I got the viewmodel working in the game, but I need to re-rig it. My usual "copy-paste weightmap" technique for rigging didn't quite work on that model. I'll have to rig manually, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

Request a L4D2 Character Model

Request a character model for me to convert by providing a download link to the model file. State which survivor the model should replace. Describe any changes you want, such as change of texture color or removal of gun holster from the character.

Update of Amanda (Catsuit) Model for L4D2

I have updated the Amanda (Catsuit) model. The hands are now at the correct size, but still need some work on their rigging. Rigging was also tweaked in many other areas.

Converted Models for L4D2 Survivors and Tutorial

On my website months ago, I placed 5 converted (and tweaked) models that replace the four survivors in Left 4 Dead 2. I also began writing a tutorial on how to convert models for use in L4D2.
